  • FMG were appointed by Wokingham Borough Council to develop a new Playing Pitch Strategy ('PPS'), which was required to replace their out of date strategy, and also consider the impact from significant housing growth locally. Sport England's Playing Pitch Calculator was used to calculate future demand generated from six strategic development locations. The Action Plan identified a range of on-site and off-site contributions these developments could deliver, to help meet demand. This included the development of two sports hubs within the borough.
  • Development of the strategy involved conducting 92 site assessments to determine pitch quality and consultations with 60 sports clubs, 28 schools, and 14 Town and Parish Councils.
  • The strategy was developed in line with Sport England’s PPS guidance and was signed off by the steering group, which consisted of the Council, Sport England, and NGBs.
  • The site-by-site action plan identified the current status of sites included in the study and what their future recommendations were (Protect, Enhance, or Provide), to ensure that the shortfalls identified could be met. The Council were also provided with training to update the PPS database as part of the Stage E process.
  • Since the strategy was adopted, one of the 3G priorities identified in the Action Plan has been delivered at Berkshire Couty Sports Club (a project also supported by FMG), and the Council has been carrying out feasibility studies on the two proposed hub sites.
