Football Foundation Grass Pitch Pilots

FMG were responsible for undertaking six grass pitch pilots on behalf of the Football Foundation. The pilots included the smallest and the largest local authority grass pitch providers.
The Football Foundation do not support grass pitch improvements on local authority sites, and with over 60% of all affiliated football played on these pitches, it's important for the Foundation to provide a solution to meet their targets.
Alongside the Council’s, our work was to identify the local authority owned and managed grass pitches and undertake assessments through the Grounds Management Association (GMA).
Once we understood the quality of the pitches, our work was to identify solutions to improving grass pitch quality to good across the pilot. This included understanding the financial implications of a grass pitch maintenance fund or solution including HR and Equipment requirements.
The work identified the potential cost of increasing grass pitches to a ‘good’ quality on local authority sites and enabled the Foundation to make strategic funding decisions for the future.
