FMG were appointed by Durham Women’s FC and Women's Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) to undertake site appraisals for a new stadium for the club across the North East.
One of the recommended sites was Riverside Leisure Complex, which was taken forward for further feasibility work. This included working alongside a design team (BDP and Abacus CM) to present various masterplan schemes. These schemes considered various facility mixes, with the preferred masterplan including a stadium, facilities for day-to-day training, a performance centre, administration offices and community facilities.
Following the completion of the masterplan, Durham Women’s FC and Durham Cricket announced publicly that they are working together to pursue a new state-of-the-art facility dedicated to elite women’s football and cricket alongside community sports, helping the North East to stake its claim as the UK’s first Region of Sport. This would be the UK’s first new stadium designed around the needs of the female athlete and fan, with wider ambitions from both parties to create a women’s sports hub at the Chester-le-Street Riverside Leisure Complex.
FMG continue to work with DWFC and Durham Cricket on this scheme.
