Indoor sports facilities strategy adopting Sport England’s ANOG guidance. Our focus was on the impact of aged stock on participation, the impact of new housing growth on demand at current locations of existing facilities and if the Council had the right facilities in the right places. Our work which included analysis, consultation, officer liaison, mapping catchments and using GIS provides a list of new provision that could reach out further to meet the need to increase participation. Our business planning and operational expertise suggested that although investment in refurbishment would work, the Council should consider centralising its water provision into a new City wide 50m pool and large leisure water provision in the City Centre. As a result, the Council developed a new 50m pool and rationalised all its wet assets to this one site. FMG procured an operator for the new facility, which is now open.
