Our work included a full leisure review for the newly formed (following devolution) Cumberland Council. FMG and Progress Health Partnerships were commissioned in January 2024 to conduct a Leisure Review and develop an Active Wellbeing Strategy for Cumberland’s County Council. The work is on-going but has included a detailed mapping of policy against physical activity, a Health and Physical Activity Needs Assessment of the Cumberland population, co-production workshops with key multi-sector partners and detailed consultation conducted via one to one interviews and focus groups. The work included the development of a built facilities strategy. Following completion of the strategy, the Council has secured three funded place partnerships with Sport England, secured funding for a new leisure centre in Millom (£10m), and investment in two other leisure facilities in Cleator Moor (£3m) and Maryport (£3m). The Council has retained FMG to support them in procuring a new leisure operating partner in 2025.
